Rebecca’s contemporary garden room teen hangout
Rebecca wanted to turn her old garage into a separate space for her teenagers to relax, study, and spend time with friends. Built on the original concrete footings, this bespoke 5m x 2.6m garden room features smart design, full insulation, and a self-contained shower room. The result is a practical and beautifully finished space that feels like a natural extension of the home.
The initial challenge
Rebecca’s existing garage was no longer serving its purpose. She wanted to create a space where her teenagers could enjoy more independence while staying connected to home. The room needed to be well insulated, fully finished, and visually appealing to suit its new role as a multi-functional family space.
Our approach
We built on the original garage foundations using a galvanised steel framework for strength and energy efficiency. The exterior features low-maintenance black composite cladding to the front and sides, with corrugated cladding at the rear for a modern industrial edge.
Anthracite aluminium sliding patio doors and windows provide plenty of natural light. Inside, the room was fully plastered, painted, and fitted with durable laminate flooring. It includes a complete electrical system, heating, ventilation, wired internet, and a self-contained shower room with a pocket door and full plumbing.
The finished room
The finished space is a calm, contemporary retreat where Rebecca’s teenagers can focus, relax, or socialise. With its strong insulation, recycled rubber roof, and full utility setup, the room is built for all seasons and future flexibility. A smart, stylish addition to the home that’s ready for everyday living.
